The Climate Crisis is undermining our systems. We accelerate action for the world’s most vulnerable people.
Democracy in most African Countries are aberrations of democratic principles, undermining human rights and press freedom. We observe elections to ensure credible and transparent electoral process. We also form resilient citizens who can constructively engage our democratic leaders and institutions for transparency and accountability. We galvanize the media to ensure press freedom.
Inequalities drive poverty and vulnerability. Access-response programming is core in our work on system change.
We support the equitable transition to sustainable and resilient agri-food system.
Other impact areas
At Access Africa, we envision a world where, across every society, all people live with dignity and have equitable opportunities to thrive sustainably.
We apply our strong foundations and technical expertise within and in agri-food, which is critical to reduce poverty.
Within and across these sectors, we work on four core themes: Governance, Democratization and Human Rights, Gender and Social Inclusion (GESI), Climate Adaptation and Mitigation and Agri-food.
Across these sectors and themes, we also focus on system change, poverty reduction, women and youth.
Who we are:
Access Africa for Rights and Development Initiative (Access Africa) is a civil right, non-governmental, non-partisan and non-ethnic organization driven by a vision of “a better world: a world where everyone live with dignity and have equal opportunities to thrive sustainably in a pollution free environment”. We aim to make this a reality through our mission: “to strengthen capacities and catalyze partnerships”. By doing so, we aim to create a system change in governance at all level and also transform the agri-food to enable sustainable and more equitable lives for all. It was founded in 2015 but incorporated by the Corporate Affairs Commission in 2019 with the registration number: CAC/IT/NO 126615.
Our work goes beyond the implementation of impactful projects- together with government actors, and other partners- towards a deeper, more lasting change. We work towards systems transformation, and we make sure to build capacities for a long-lasting impact beyond project finalization.
We do that as team of non-partisan and detribalize colleagues, the vast majority of whom come from the background of activism. Our team is inspired by the transformational principles and objectives set out by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and we are committed to:
In doing these, we aim to strengthen institutions, food security and effective governance within and across press freedom, agri-food, reducing gender equalities and human rights violations and barriers to social inclusion and enabling adaptation and mitigation to the climate and biodiversity crisis.
We are committed to sharing our knowledge, expertise and experience with other actors- governmental, institutional, NGO, CSO, and private sector- as well as adopting and adapting from their experience and expertise. We will be proactive in communicating passionately, critically, and clearly about our work and our learning to build understanding and leverage impact and influence.
